Elif Shafak on Trial for "Insulting Turkishness"

Popular Turkish author Elif Shafak is nine-months pregnant and soon to be on trial on charges of "insulting Turkishness" in her novel that deals with the latter years of the Ottoman Empire. If convicted, Shafak could face three years in prison.Once again the Muslim world shows itself as the backward, repressive, archaic, head-in-the-sand society it really is. This is but another sad example of misguided religious ideals interfering with the positive progress of the modern world and hindering the peaceful unification of humankind.
