Written by Prince around 1984 Nothing Compares 2 U got little recognition. Irish singer and songwriter, Sinead O'Connor rerecorded the song for her second album, "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got" in 1990 and became one of the best selling records in the world that year. Sinead, known for her controversial opinions and public displays, (example video of Saturday Night Live incident here) sang Nothing Compares 2U with such emotion she began genuinely crying during the music video.
