The Day America Died: October 17, 2006

If there are any Americans out there who still have the illusion that they live in a "free country" then they obviously have their heads buried in the political sand. I cannot let the month close out without making another attempt to inform others that America officially died on October 17th. That's when President George W. Bush signed the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which did away with Habeas Corpus. Forget the fact that this is entirely unconstitutional and thus illegal, but now Bush has set into motion his own dictatorship.
It is now "legal" for him or his appointees to secretly arrest any American citizen, try them in a military tribunal instead of a civil court of law, place a death sentence on them with only hearsay evidence and execute them without the due process of appeal.
It is now possible for anyone branded as unpatriotic, a potential enemy of the state, or "unlawful enemy combatants" to face a Gitmo type of future. Don't forget that Halliburton is busy building detention (read "concentration"?) camps/centers/facilities allegedly for temporarily holding illegal aliens waiting to be deported. I'm sure there will be plenty of room for some good ol' Americans, too. Please, consider watching each of these two videos fully to get the whole message. Keith Olbermann's special commentary may well go down in broadcast history as being one of the most moving and sane pleas for the American public to wake up... if it's not too late already.

Happy Holloween: Night of the Living Dead

What better way to celebrate Halloween than by watching for the umpteenth time George Romero's Night of the Living Dead? Produced in 1968 for only 114 thousand dollars it is considered a classic of the horror film and the beginning of the zombie sub-genre of horror films. Personally, I laugh much more than cringe in fright when watching it. The movie is very tame and childish by today's standards of the psychological gore fest I refuse to submit my tender psyche to. I have enough fevered dreams already without adding someone else's to the menu.

Katie Couric Interviews Michael J. Fox

Katie Couric interviews Michael J. Fox about his recent political ads for certain Democratic candidates around the country. Also addressed are the rude and shameful comments made by Rush Limbaugh accusing Fox of exaggerating his condition to garner sympathy and shill for the Democrats. Michael J. Fox suffers from Parkinson's disease and he explains the reality of his condition and the effects of his medications. Michael isn't campaigning just for furthering embryonic stem cell research but to advocate support for all cutting edge research that may bring relief to suffers of not only Parkinson's but also ALS, Alzheimer's, diabetes, spinal cord injuries and even HIV/AIDS victims. Many scientists think that embryonic stem cell research holds promise for discovering improved therapies for these diseases and more.

Michael J. Fox Campaigns for Stem Cell Research

Claire McCaskill, Missouri Democrat, is in favor of embryonic stem cell research. Michael J. Fox suffers from Parkinson Disease which some scientists believe could possibly be cured from the discoveries from stem cell research. Fox has made similar campaign ads for Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin, who is running for the Senate in Maryland and Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle. He also was planning to appear at events for Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey and Tammy Duckworth, a candidate for Congress from Illinois. Dr. John Boockvar, a neurosurgeon and assistant professor at Weill Cornell Medical Center at New York's Presbyterian Hospital said, "If there is one single disease that has the highest potential for benefit from stem cell research it's Parkinson's." Most Americans favor and support some sort of stem cell research even though President Bush's administration has done extreme damage to the efforts to develop research in the U.S..
Republican zombie, drug addict and foul-mouthed sensationalistic liar Rush Limbaugh's remarks that Michael J. Fox is exaggerating his apparent symptoms as a sellout to the Democrats is appalling and shameful. Why does this have to be about Democrats or Republicans? Why can't we move beyond our political differences to work for the greater good of humankind? Hindering scientific and medical research that could save millions of lives is closed-minded ignorance. Of course, it seems the Republicans are more set on killing, maiming and manipulating than in saving lives and improving the world. Stem cell research isn't the only science that the Bush administration has tried to squash and I doubt they will stop displaying their stupidity any time soon. Their neoconservative mindset is moving America backwards at an ever increasing pace and I feel sorry for the lives that are being destroyed today and will be destroyed in the future because of their actions.

Future War: North Korea 2014

The chilling yet sanitary depiction of a possible future confrontation between American armed forces and the North Korean army is meant to show off America's superior technology and firepower. I find it discomforting that this series of videos boldly selects a target that is an actual potential hotbed of future warfare and then fantasizes about how we could easily kill and destroy through the use of robots, computers, and technologies. Making war even more impersonal through the use of surrogate combatants and technology that allows troops to kill from greater distances without ever seeing the face of their enemy only seems to be leading to a path of increasing confrontations with a cocky over confidence of victory.

The Illusion of Real Beauty Perpetuated

No wonder our views of beauty are so distorted. The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty is an admirable attempt to educate women that they can be comfortable in their own skin. However, I feel Dove hasn't gone far enough since their focus is obviously sexist in that it ignores the plight of men who struggle with the very same image problems perpetuated by media. Men are inundated with the illusion that they are less than real men and are unattractive to women when compared to the hairless, tanned, zero body fat, six pack abs, square jawed, metrosexual studs that gaze out at them with their steamy bedroom eyes from billboards, magazines, movies, commercials and the internet. There seems to be no place for the norm or reality as the norm is less than beautiful and unattractive according to the lies fed to us by the fantasy machine media. Dove and other companies are making inroads but much more needs to be done. Of course, it all begins with each one of us individually as we take an inward look at how we perceive ourselves and know who we really are. Then we need to take an honest look around us at our fellow human beings and open our minds to the fact that we are all, both female and male, beautiful in our uniqueness and individuality and we don't need to buy in to lie that we are less than what we are.

Explosive Colorful Sony Bravia Commercial

An amazing commercial for the Sony Bravia LCD television. Once again (remember the balls commercial?), Sony has pulled out the creative stops to produce a memorable commercial filled with vibrant colors and explosive excitement. No, I'm not getting a commission to sell TVs but do appreciate artistic expression. Of note is that a special kind of non-toxic paint was used that is allegedly safe enough to drink and was harmless to the skin. Also, BIG WARNING to anyone stricken with Coulrophobia... there is a random and totally unrelated clown inserted into this commercial that appears bent on performing some unspeakable evil. Please, watch at your own risk.

Iraq War Profiteers Murdering Our Troops

When will Americans wake up and see they are being duped by their government and the corporations that run it? The war in Iraq and Afghanistan is being used to put billions of dollars of misdirected monies into the pockets of the warmongering corporations and politicians who orchestrated its reality and most Americans sit by dumbly and ignore the facts. Conscious Media Network interviews Robert Greenwald on his latest movie, Iraq For Sale: The War Profiteers and discusses war profiteering. Most of the interviews in the film are with actual Halliburton and its subsidiaries' employees as well as our troops themselves. $45 for a six pack of Coke? $100 to laundry soldiers underwear? Water treatment plants that turn out dangerously contaminated water for our soldiers to drink and shower in? Billions of taxpayers' dollars going into the pockets of Halliburton and its paid government goons. These are crimes against the people of the United States that need brought to light and justice rendered.

The Last Live Performance of Johnny Cash

Allegedly Johnny Cash's last public performance filmed by an attendee of the Carter Family Fold on July 5th, 2003. Johnny sings I Walk the Line, and Ring of Fire. Ring of Fire was originally written by wife June Carter and recorded by June's sister, Anita Carter in 1962. The song documents Carter's feelings of conflict arising from her relationship with Cash and his drug addiction. The Man in Black will be long remembered...

Frank Miller's 300 Trailer

Frank Miller appears set to do it again with the upcoming movie based on his award winning graphic novel 300. 300 is about the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta led his small army against the massive Persians of Xerxes, inspiring all of Greece to unite and help usher in the world's first democracy. With the success of Miller's Sin City graphic novel on the big screen, he seems poised to bring more of his ingenious comic book goodness to a wider audience in another media. 300 is scheduled for release in April 2007. Sin City 2 is also scheduled for 2007 release.

Michael Jackson's Ghosts Full Video

Michael Jackson's Thriller music video, released in 1983, is probably more well known than his short feature film, Ghosts released in 1997. Ghosts is arguably a long music video that features songs from Jackson's HIStory and Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix albums. Michael played both main characters, Maestro and The Town Mayor and was directed by Stephen King. The makeup for Jackson as The Town Major was extensive, converting him to an overweight middle-aged white man that fooled many ardent fans the first time they viewed the film. Oops, hope I didn't spoil it for someone.

America: From Freedom to Fascism

Has the American government been "taken over" and is now on the road to fascism through a secret plot that started nearly 100 years ago? Allegedly, a fraud has been perpetrated on the American people through the ratification of the Sixteenth amendment to the Constitution of the United States and the creation of the Federal Reserve Act in 1913. Is the Federal Income Tax unconstitutional? Do we have to pay our federal taxes? If so, what is the law that mandates this? Being a good American doesn't mean being blind and dumb to the potential manipulations and abuses of our government. Why have we forgotten that the government is supposed to be the servant of the people and not the master?

Omer the Tourist in Star Trek

Found at This Modern World by Tom Tomorrow I am almost embarrassed to submit for your viewing torture the Turkish version of Star Trek. The Wave Magazine did a very entertaining review of Turist Omer Uzay Yolunda (Omer the Tourist in Star Trek). Filmed in 1973, it is supposed to be a parody of the original Star Trek episode entitled The Man Trap. I guess Omer the Tourist played by the late Sadri Alisik was sort of the Benny Hill or Jerry Lewis of Turkish comedy in his time. By the way, The Wave Magazine also did some fun reviews of the Turkish versions of The Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, and E.T..

Bollywood Does Indian Version of Michael Jackson's Thriller

Bollywood does it once more with an Indian version of Michael Jackson's Thriller music video. This pathetic performance is by Konidela Siva Sankara Vara Prasad better known as Chiranjeevi or Mega Star in India. This sad rip-off of American pop culture is so horrible that it is actually hilariously funny. The clip is from his 1985 Bollywood movie, Donga (Thief). The language is Telugu the most spoken India language after Hindi. I think Chiranjeevi also acts as the man lying on the couch in the Bizarre Dancing Man Boy video previously featured on Bonez.

Robot Chicken: Star Wars Parody

Imagine the evil Emperor Palpatine a.k.a. Darth Sidious sitting in his office telling jokes about his exploits to some of his cronies when he gets an unexpected call from his loyal apprentice Darth Vader with some very disturbing news about the Death Star. That's the setting for this hilarious Robot Chicken Star Wars spoof from [adult swim]. It will have you laughing along with the happy-go-lucky Dark Lord of the Sith as he ridicules the emotionally fragile Vader's shortcomings and manipulates him to do his wicked bidding.

Boba Fett: Bounty Trail Fan Film

Boba Fett: Bounty Trail is a well made Star Wars fan film from Australia. Originally released in 1999 this film is all the more impressive with the detailed costuming and above par acting as well as the unique concept used to convey the story. Set in modern day, the viewer's mind is transported along with a comic book reader's to the Star Wars universe via a mixture of comic art, mixed cinematic techniques and computer generated space battle scenes. Directed by Justin Dix.

Victoria's Secret 2003 Full Show

It has been a while since I've given in to my more prurient interests and featured beautiful scantily clad women on Bonez. Since my post of the 2005 Victoria's Secret fashion show was such a hit, I have laboriously dug through the Video Google archives to find a golden oldie Victoria's Secret fashion show presented by Fashion TV. Jump into the way back machine to 2003 and watch the full show. Isn't time travel just so much fun?

"Weird Al" Yankovic White & Nerdy Music Video

"Weird Al" Yankovic never fails to entertain with his parody music videos. White & Nerdy is no exception and a must see for any Weird Al fan. This is the third relink I've done for White & Nerdy and if I didn't like Weird Al so much I would just give up and delete this post.]

Liger is the Newest Super Cat

At over 900 pounds, the Liger is the largest cat on earth. The product of forced breeding between a male lion and a female tiger, the Liger is nearly twice the size of it's parents. I wonder what is the true intent of the scientist breeding such a super cat? What other secret new species of beasts are being created and their existence and purpose hidden from the public? What corporations are backing such experiments in genetic manipulation and what do they hope to gain from financing this research? Will the experience of creating a new super predator move mankind forward in finding cures for diseases or progressing the process of world peace?
