Amazing Car Runs on Air

The Compressed Air Car developed by Motor Development International (MDI) founder Guy Negre might be the best thing to have happened to the motor engine in years. The $12,700 CityCAT, one of the planned Air Car models, can hit 68 mph and has a range of 125 miles between recharges. The only emissions are filtered air that's even cleaner than the outside air. It will take only a few minutes for the CityCAT to refuel at home or at a gas station equipped with custom air compressor units. MDI says it should cost only around $2 to fill the car up with 340 liters of air. The Air Car will start production soon, thanks to India's TATA Motors.

Forget corn and biofuels. Dump plans for hydrogen cells. Laugh at the puny hybrids. Thumb your nose as the expensive electrics. Get your motorin' on with an Air Car, Baby! There is renewable fuel all around us. What could be better than air?

That is one cool car!

Yes it is, Blue. I am hoping it is only one of many new alternatives we will be seeing in the next year or so. I believe we should support the ingenuity necessary to beat our dependence on foreign oil be it with new car design, implementing more wind, solar, tidal, geothermal and nuclear power into the grid or whatever. I don't think biofuels are the way to go. Cars like this one would be perfect for the average commuter.

I'd really like to have one of these. I have a mercifully short commute to work that would be perfect for this kind of technology. Unfortunately, I'm one of those "fat Americans" that would look like a happy meal toy driving something like this.

There are various models and they may have one more "fitting" for your needs. I look at this as being a precursor to many more innovative methods of cutting our dependency on foreign oil.
