Shoot Qurans Not People

It is ludicrous that the frakkin' President of the frakkin' United States lowered himself to licking the dusty sandals and kissing the sweaty ass of the Iraqi Prime Minister and the Iraqi people, in general. Simply because an American soldier had the immature lack of judgment to use a copy of the Quran as a target for sniper practice. The soldier was reprimanded and removed from service in Iraq. More than likely this was a move to save him from the Islamic religious zealots who would sell popcorn to the viewers of his decapitation on Al Jazeera television.

The befuddled and bumbling Bush office went so far as to say the soldier would stand trial for the offense. Trial? You've got to be frakkin' kidding me! I am not advocating the disrespect of any religion but come on people. If we get this kind of response and trembling from the Iraqis over a few bullet holes in a book then what are we doing wasting our time and troops fighting insurgents, factions and terrorists? Hell, we can just drive them into cowering submission by shooting books instead of people. Can't you see it? Thousands of lives saved because the insurgents finally laid down their arms because we were holding a gun to a copy of the Quran. Drop 'em or the book gets it!

Further insult is that Bush has asked all the Commanders over the U.S. forces to educate their troops on the importance of the respect for the religious views of the Iraqi people. Um, excuse me? The Iraqis don't even respect each other's religious views and daily kill each other over their petty differences in their so called "Religion of Peace". Observing to what ridiculous lengths the Muslims will go to demonstrate their insecurities and frustrations over the desecration of a book or the depiction of their prophet Mohammed and then see they obviously do not value the sanctity of life or religious freedom is so laughable.

The top Sunni Arab in the government, said "the feelings of bitterness and anger cannot be eased unless there is a deterrent punishment and real guarantees". The Iraqi Islamic Party also said an apology alone was not enough and the U.S. military should impose the "severest punishment" on the soldier to ensure others do not repeat his act. I guess that means bumbling blathering Bush has to get back into the Iraqi tribal leaders' good and merciful graces by publicly sacrificing the poor soldier's life. Give the sacrilegious bastard 200 lashes on public television and then have him beheaded with a dull machete by a group of cowardly masked men chanting "Praise be to Allah!" That'll teach our military boys and girls the seriousness of disrespecting the peaceful and benevolent Muslims.

By the way, this is not the first instance of a U.S. military troop using the Quran for target practice and our allies have had similar experiences themselves.

The religious fundies have no respect for other's people's right's yet get pissed over shooting a book of myth.

What a crazy world we live in.

Hi Blue. I agree and find the radical Christian fundamentalists not that far removed in their ideals and behaviors from their Muslim counterparts. I'm still trying to find a way to say Islamofascists in an intelligent sentence but am about to give up the effort. Hold it... didn't I just do it?

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

Everybody fighing over whose imaginary friend is better is what continues to tear this world apart. Money isn't the root of all evil - religion is.

Love that John Lennon song and agree wholeheartedly. Money is NOT the root of all evil. Actually, the Christian Bible does NOT say that MONEY itself is the root of all evil or even some evil. According to the Random House Dictionary of Proverbs and Sayings, the phrase first appeared in English around 1000 A.D. The saying originated in the New Testament. “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (Timothy, 6:10 KJV)

So, while misquoted and misused the original does carry a bit of wisdom in the fact that much of mankind's woes are driven by the desire to have more than they currently possess or coveting what someone else has... like oil... or something.

On the other hand, I think it is human nature to war and has nothing at all to do with religion (as a whole). If they didn't have religion to fight over they would find something else as "compelling".

Interesting.

Shoot Koran. Get out of the Army.

Sounds like an exit strategy to me.

That reasoning is exactly why this young soldier will be crucified by our military and government. Make an example out of him to prevent others from attempting the same "exit strategy". Sad... whatever happened to freedom of expression? (knowing grin)

Religious tolerance is a meaningless phrase, ultimately. No religion truly "tolerates" any others. It's all a waste of time in my book. I'm no different than most monotheists, I just believe in one less god than them.

I don't think that the war(s) in the Middle East have anything to do with religion. At least not today. It's all about money and oil. They got the oil and we don't have enough money to get it all. Therefore we gotta take it or at least try and control who runs the country and gets to distribute the oil to us. Problem is China is going to be wanting that same oil pretty soon...
