The IT Crowd

The IT Crowd is a British situation comedy broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK. The show focuses on the misadventures of two geeky, nerdy support guys that make up the IT (Information Technology) department of a fictitious London corporation. Since this hits close to home for quite a few of the Bonez crew (including Mr. Bonez himself), those of you that aren't familiar with the show should probably check it out:

There are several clips and even a few full episodes on YouTube. I tried to choose something that would stand alone comedy-wise and introduce the characters at the same time. I think you'll get the idea.

NBC in the United States has picked up the series as a 2007-2008 mid-season replacement and is producing the show with an American cast -- with the exception of Richard Ayoade who will reprise his role as Moss. For Red Dwarf fans, this may all sound strangely familiar. NBC optioned Red Dwarf for the US market in 1992 and brought over Robert Llewellyn to reprise his role as the mechanoid Kryten. Two separate pilots were produced (the second one including a pre-Deep Space Nine Terry Farrell as The Cat) and both were dismal failures -- never even broadcast (although heavily bootlegged, of course). Let's hope The It Crowd fares better.

I loved Red Dwarf, but I also knew that there was no way a show like that would do well here in America. It's too different.

I'm all for the Americanization of British entertainment. Look at what a great job we did with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Mr. Bean!
